It is that time of year when mother nature can dampen local racing activities. Still local tracks forge ahead! The Sportsdrome Speedway kicked off its 77th season this past weekend. A huge field signed up for various events! This weekend the Drome has another full slate of racing including: Oval, Sportsman, and Modified Figure 8. Tickets $5 to 15, with kids five and under: FREE. You can get updates from track owner-operator Mike Gibson on the Sportsdrome Facebook page. The Ohio Valley Dragway will open the season for action on April 7. The dragstrip is about 25 minutes from Louisville along Dixie Highway in West Point, Kentucky. As for the Salem Speedway, about an hour northwest of Louisville in Southern Indiana, it has its first season opening race on Sunday April 16. See details and get tickets at www.salemspeedway.com. The new Salem owners have big plans ahead! There is no racing action at Salem on April 8, but there is driver practice and an Easter Egg hunt for the kids!
This weekend in the NHRA drivers head west to Ponoma, California for the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals. The Indy Car Series stars battle this weekend at the 1.5 mile track at the Texas Motor Speedway. ARCA does not see action again until April 22 at the big speedway in Talladega. For those who like the international excitement of Formula 1, drivers take the green flag Sunday in the Australian Grand Prix.

This past weekend was a huge one for Monster Jam at Freedom Hall in Louisville. Fans packed the historic arena for two-days of non-stop excitement! Drivers and teams put on a show to remember! NASCAR heads to the Richmond Raceway this weekend. Expect tight racing and tension on the mile long track. This past weekend the action took place at the Circuit of Americas road course in Texas. Tyler Reddick got the win in the NASCAR Cup Series. A-J Allmendinger claimed the win in the Xfinity Series and Zane Smith took the checkered flag in the Craftsman Trucks.
