KENTUCKIANA MOTORSPORTS PRESENTED BY LUCAS OIL It's been a strong season to date for local drivers. Some familiar names are at or near the top in the points battles. However, others are trying to slip through. On Saturday, the Sportsdrome Speedway is set to hold its Mid-Season Championships. Drome owner-operator Mike Gibson promises some great action. A large crowd is expected at the track just off Interstate 65 in Jeffersonville, just 5 minutes from downtown Louisville. And if that isn't enough, next Saturday, the 57th Annual Mid-Western Outlaw Figure 8 Championship will be held at the flat short track. Gibson has a strong summer schedule and it includes some fun and unique events too. For more, check out the Sportsdrome Speedway Facebook page or www.sportsdromelonline.com The Indy Car Series hits the road course at Road America in Wisconsin. In the last series event on the streets of Detroit, Alex Palou had two strong late restarts to hold-off Will Power by just over a second to get the win. Both Palou, and Indianapolis 500 winner, Josef Newgarden, each have two wins in the Indy Car Series so far this year to lead all drivers. There was so much action in Bristol this weekend it was hard to keep up with it all as the stars of the NHRA visited the area. The NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals was billed as a doubleheader weekend. In Top Fuel, Justin Ashley dominated and had a weekend to remember. He beat Lucas Oil racer Antron Brown to get the Bristol championship. Defending Funny Car Champion Ron Capps surged to get his first w event win of the season. In Pro Stock champ Erica Enders won and in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Steve Johnson claimed the top spot! Up next in the NHRA, June 22-25th, the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Ohio. The NASCAR Cup Series hits Nashville next, but not this weekend. Driver, crew members, and teams get a weekend off for Father's Day (Both Xfinity and Trucks are off too). The Nashville race takes place June 25th. After that it is the new street course in Chicago on July 2 Martin Truex Jr. got the win on the road course at Sonoma this past weekend. His second of the season. Truex leads the Cup Point Standings over William Byron. In third is Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain is 4th, and Kevin Harvick is 5th. Kyle Busch is next in 6th. Neither Harvick or Chastain have wins yet this season. They have been consistent and would make the playoffs on points if the playoffs were held today. Busch and Byron lead all drivers with 3 wins each and have racked up plenty of playoff points. Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, and Kyle Larson round out the top 10. All have wins. If you like to watch big rigs race head to the Salem Speedway this weekend. The Semi's will line-up and battle on the High Banks of the Salem Speedway. The track is about an hour from downtown Louisville in Southern Indiana. Always a fun track to see any kind of racing. The Crown Vics will also take the green flag. Visit the track website and keep an eye on its social media for other news on the Saturday event. Another fun track is the Ponderosa Speedway. It is known as "Kentucky's Baddest Bullring". It is a short dirt track in central Kentucky at Junction City near Danville (About an hour and fifteen minutes southeast of Louisville). Drive south to Bowling Green (KY) and you'll enjoy Beech Bend. There is an amusement park, camping, and racing. The Beech Bend dragstrip brings in the fans and has a wide range of events. Just outside of Louisville in West Point Kentucky is the Ohio Valley Dragway. It is a 1/8th mile track on Dixie Highway. It is not unusual to see a Lucas Oil logo at local tracks. The company has long supported local tracks, drivers, series, and communities. A reminder, checkout social media pages of local tracks for ticket specials, last minute changes, and weather reports too! When going to the track, summer vacations, or driving around town, don't forget to put Lucas Oil Products in your car or truck. They do so much for racing communities across America.
