It is Kansas this weekend in NASCAR. What a race at Darlington with a non-playoff driver earning the victory. Erik Jones with Petty-GMS celebrated the win! So many car issues scrambled the playoff points for other teams. After the next two events, Kansas & Bristol, four drivers will be eliminated from NASCAR Cup Championship competition. Sitting towards the bottom in points is Kevin Harvick. He was not happy about a non-contact issue causing his car to erupt in flames and forced him to park his #4 machine. For those lagging towards the rear in playoff points like Harvick, they need a victory or a top 5 finish, and hope those playoffs drivers in front of them fall behind.
Kansas will be critical for NASCAR Truck Series driver Ben Rhodes. Recent races have not served him well. Ben has fallen to 7th out of 10 playoff drivers. The two lowest will get cut after Kansas. The Louisville native is the defending Camping World Truck Series Champion.
The Indy Car Series has just one race left! It will take place Sunday at Laguna, California. Scott McLaughlin easily took the win over the Labor Day Holiday weekend at Portland. Will Power was second and Scott Dixon came in third. The points battle down to 5 drivers: Power is 20 points ahead of both Dixon and Josef Newgarden. Marcus Ericsson and McLaughlin are further back in 4th and 5th. All Power has to do is finish 3rd or better to win the title. Don't think the other 4 will not put up a fight, including Dixon, a 6-Time Indy Car Champion! Again, the last race of the 2022 season is Sunday.

The Sportsdome Speedway in Jeffersonville, Indiana is scheduled to crown new 2022 champions Saturday September 17th. Some drivers are locked into a title when they crank the car. Other divisions are very close. The Clark Nickles Excavating Championships are worth the visit to the Drome. It will be a full Saturday night of action. The track is just 5 minutes from downtown Louisville off Interstate 65. Always check Sportsdrome social media and track website for last minute changes, including weather issues. Track Owner and operator Mike Gibson has had a great season. There are still events scheduled until early October! Salem Speedway (About an hour slightly northwest of Louisville) schedules racing through late October. Major events coming up including the huge ARCA race and the always popular Halloween 200!
We want to congratulate the NHRA! What a great event, the U-S Nationals, over the Labor Day Holiday weekend. The stands were full, the competition.. the best! Lucas Oil has been the Official Oil of the NHRA and a Presenting Sponsoring over two decades! Not only does it sponsor the series but drivers too! NASCAR Great and NHRA team owner Tony Stewart added great commentary in the Fox Sports television booth. The multi-day event took place at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The drag racing series has plenty of season excitement left. It holds events into mid-November. There were so many stories during the U-S Nationals. In the Top Fuel Final round two drivers battled: Antron Brown and Brittany Force. The Lucas Oil backed Brown won the U-S Nationals Top Fuel Championship! Ron Capps won a cool $80,000 in the Funny Car Allstar Callout and backed it up by winning the Funny Car U-S Nationals Championship! John Force, the 73 year old competed well, but narrowly missed another title. But note, as a driver, Force has won 16 NHRA Funny Car Championships, and several more as an owner. He has more than 150 victories. The ageless warrior is like Richard Petty in NASCAR-- a true ambassador of the sport. He's a great driver and a fan favorite. The U-S Nationals is similar to the activities surrounding the Daytona 500: Non-stop and exciting! Congrats to Lucas Oil for hosting such a mega event! It was fun to watch!
Thanks for all the entries and winners in our KMS Free Giveaway (Lucas Oil Driver autographs)! (See Giveaway tab in heading!). We have a new fall giveaway on the way! We'll announce within the couple next weeks!
